Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer telehealth sessions?
Yes, we provide secure, HIPAA-compliant video sessions for residents across Maui and the Hawaiian islands, allowing you to receive care from the comfort of your home.
How long are the therapy sessions?
Standard individual therapy sessions are 55 minutes. Specific clinical assessments may occasionally be scheduled for 60-120 minutes to ensure a comprehensive overview.
How often are therapy sessions scheduled?
At the start of treatment, clients are expected to attend weekly therapy sessions. Session frequency may be adjusted later based on clinical judgment and client progress. Consistency in scheduling the same day and time each week is considered integral to treatment.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 24 hours' notice for session cancellations. Changes made with less than 24 hours' notice will incur a fee to respect the time held for your care.
Why do I have to provide my credit card?
By establishing care with Prism Behavioral Health, clients acknowledge and agree that the credit card on file may be charged for insurance copayments, coinsurance, applicable Hawaii General Excise (GE) Tax, and any fees due on the date of service. The credit card may also be charged for missed appointment or late cancellation fees in accordance with the Attendance Policy.
If insurance claims are denied or services are not covered, clients are financially responsible for the applicable self-pay fees as outlined in our Clinician and Patient Agreement. If an account balance is not reconciled within one month of the date of service, Prism Behavioral Health is authorized to charge the credit card on file for the outstanding balance.
Clients are responsible for ensuring that their credit card information remains current. Failure to maintain a valid credit card on file may result in an interruption of services.
Can I bring my child with to my appointment?
Unsupervised minors are not permitted in the office or waiting room at any time.
Children may not be present during parent or caregiver sessions, as their presence may interfere with patient care, confidentiality, and the therapeutic process. Therapy sessions are intended to provide a focused and private clinical environment, and the presence of children who are not the identified patient may disrupt treatment or limit open discussion. Limited exceptions to this policy may be made for infants, at the discretion of the clinician, when their presence does not interfere with the provision of care.
Can I drop my child off for their appointment?
A parent or legal guardian must remain on the premises during a minor’s appointment and may not drop off a child for therapy sessions.
For minors ages 16–17 who can drive themselves to appointments, a parent or legal guardian does not need to remain on site. However, an emergency contact must be reachable by phone for the duration of the session in the event that immediate contact is required.
Failure to follow this policy may result in the session being canceled or rescheduled and may be subject to the practice’s late cancellation or no-show policy.
